Foreign Ministry spokesman has strongly condemned the US-drafted resolution to cancel Iran's membership in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women for the remainder of its 2022-2026 term.

Iran Press/Iran News: The 54-member UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) voted on a US-drafted resolution to cancel Iran's membership in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women for the remainder of its 2022-2026 term.

Nasser Kanaani, in a statement early on Thursday, considered the resolution as a political action, without legal authority, contrary to the UN charter that creates a wrong procedure in this international organization.

The spokesperson pointed out that Iran has been a member of the commission for two terms during the last ten years, and won the membership of this body for the third time with the maximum number of votes (43 votes out of 54 members of ECOSOC).

"This biased action of the US against the Islamic Republic of Iran is an attempt to impose unilateral political demands and ignore the election procedure in international institutions," added Kanaani. "Depriving one of the legal members of the Commission on the Status of Women is a political heresy, discrediting this international organization and also creating a unilateral procedure for future abuses of international institutions. It is ridiculous that the fake regime of Israel, with a black record of organized crimes against the oppressed Palestinian nation, is considered a member of the commission, thanks to the support of the US government."

Referring to the extensive and long-term efforts of the US to destabilize Iran and the role of the US government in violating the rights of the Iranian nation, Kanani stated: "A country that is a major violator of the rights of the Iranian nation and women's society, and since the beginning of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, has not hesitated to take any hostile action against the rights and interests of the Iranian people, how has become a claimant to protect the rights of Iranian women?"

The Iranian diplomat went on to say, "Undoubtedly, the US cannot cover up the widespread violation of the rights of the people of the nation, especially the women of Iran through the imposition of unilateral sanctions for several decades, by blackmailing the Islamic Republic."

"During the past forty years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made great achievements in the field of women's progress, and Iranian women will continue the path of progress and development based on Iranian Islamic values," he reiterated.

Kanaani concluded, "We extend thanks to the 25 CSW member states that did not support the resolution in various ways and did not vote for it, and there is no doubt that the US action is condemned and unacceptable from the eyes of the great nation of Iran and in the court of the judgment of the awakened consciences and independent governments of the world."
