Fifteen Iranian fishermen imprisoned in India released

New Delhi (IP) - The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi announced the release of 15 Iranian fishermen who were imprisoned in India and said that these people are leaving for Tehran tonight.

Iran PressAsia: Ali Chegini, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi today (Friday) announced the release of 15 Iranian prisoners in India and said: ‌"Last year, 15 citizens and fishermen had an accident by a storm when they were fishing in the open waters."

"They entered Indian territorial waters to seek help and were detained in India for entering the waters illegally," he added.

He pointed out that these people had been in trouble for a long time and even during this time their dinghy had sunk, adding: "These people, who first had very difficult conditions in detention in Bangalore, were finally acquitted after several rounds of trial."

Chegini added: "With the follow-up done and the cooperation of the Indian authorities, these 15 people are leaving for Tehran tonight."
