Iran's Ambassador to Armenia stressed that news about a military contract between Iran and Armenia is not true and called it baseless.

Iran Press/Europe: Mehdi Sobhani noted that the intention behind publishing such news is to hinder the development of friendly relations between Iran and the regional countries.

He emphasized: "Iran supports the establishment of peace and stability as well as economic development in the Caucasus region."

The Defense Ministry of Armenia, for its part, considered the reports about a $500 billion arms sale contract with Iran some fabricated stories by news media.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Azerbaijan and Armenia have twice gone to war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The region finally came under the control of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2020.

During these years, Iran has taken steps toward reducing tensions and establishing friendly and constructive relations between these two neighboring countries, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and has acted as a mediator with diplomacy and dialogue.
