Ardabil (IP) - The deputy head of Azerbaijan Republic's Customs organization has said with the implementation e-TIR plan, the amount of goods transiting between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan has doubled.

Iran PressIran news: The deputy head of the Republic of Azerbaijan's Customs organization, Iqbal Babayev, in an exclusive interview with Iran Press in Ardabil, northeast of Iran, said international transportation requires state membership in the convention of international transportation of goods through roads, and both Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic,  as two member states of the convention, have decided to implement a plan for electronic transfer of data, known as e-TIR.

"The Republic of Azerbaijan has a goods transit route through which it can connect Iranian trucks to Russia from the north and to Georgia from the west," Iqbal Babayev added.

He said Iran also has special routes for the transit of goods coming in from the Republic of Azerbaijan, and these goods are transported to Nakhchivan and to neighboring countries.

The first meeting of e-TIR was held on Wednesday (October 30), in Ardabil, northwest of Iran, with the attendance of Iran, Azerbaijan Republic, and Georgia's customs representatives.

At the troika summit, the Director-General for International Cooperation of Iran's Customs Organization, Hossein Kakhaki said with the agreement reached between Iran, Azerbaijan Republic, and Georgia, the transit of goods will be done in the form of the electronic exchange of documents and information, and this will speed up the transit of goods through customs.
