Coronavirus: UK death toll hits 10,612

The coronavirus death toll in the UK has jumped to at least 10,612 after 737 people died in just 24 hours.

Iran Press/Europe: The death toll from COVID-19 has risen to 10,612 across hospitals in the United Kingdom after a recorded daily rise of 737, the health ministry said on Sunday. The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients who have died in the UK has reached 10,612, the Department of Health has announced, as reported by Reuters.

It comes as Boris Johnson was discharged from hospital, one week after being admitted due to persistent coronavirus symptoms.

That is a leap from Saturday's total of  9,875 as the country remains in lockdown.

Ministers said the UK will remain in lockdown until figures start to fall, while police have already issued over a 1,000 fines to those breaching the restrictions.

This comes as around half of A&E medics at a major Welsh hospital have tested positive for coronavirus.
