Iran Press/ Iran news: Tajbakhsh emphasized the importance of adapting to climate change and said: "There is still an opportunity to manage resources for combating environmental risks."
She said there was a 30% increase in the number of articles sent to this conference compared to the previous conference. 350 articles have been sent to this conference, 45 of them are presentations, and about 200 articles are posters along with 11 specialized panels and 7 training workshops.
Referring to the importance of climate change at the global, national, and regional levels, the chairman of the 7th International Conference on Climate Change stated: "The most important issue that will be addressed in this conference is the preparation of reports related to climate change. It was decided that 3 IPCC working groups submit their final reports".
"Today, serious risks threaten all the people of the world, and the best solution to reduce the risks is adapting to climate change and its challenges as well as using different methods to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon consumption," the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development said.
The trend of rising temperature and decreasing precipitation has occurred in most of the West Asian countries, the highest temperature increase has occurred in Iran and Iraq, and the largest decrease in precipitation has occurred in Afghanistan and Azerbaijan.
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. are also affected by climate change.
"In Iran, during the past 50 years, we have witnessed a trend of rising temperatures and decreasing rainfall. In 2023, the trend of rising temperature had been 1.5 degrees higher than the global average, and the record of the highest temperature in the history of the Earth was recorded in 2023. The year 2024 could be even warmer," Tajbakhsh reminded.
"The average global temperature on Earth has reached about 15 degrees, which has increased, and the latest information on temperature changes indicates that most changes have occurred in subtropical regions," the head of Iran Meteorological Organization said.
The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development considered the rising sea level another serious risk. He said that the risks have been increasing and that what will help us is moving towards sustainable development and creating resilient cities and countries against the risks of climate change.
The 7th International Conference on Climate Change is being held on January 29-30 with the joint participation of the Atmospheric Science and Meteorological Research Center (ASMERC), Iran Meteorological Organization, and Iran Ministry of Roads and Urban Development with the participation of 12 countries and five international institutions.
