Eight new expansion and development projects were unveiled on Thursday morning, at a special ceremony attended by Iran's minister of road, transportation and urban development, Abbas Akhoundi, and the managing director of Imam Khoemini international airport, Shahram Adamnejad.

Speaking to reporters and journalists on Thursday Abbas Akhoundi said:  "One of these projects is to expand the space where freight and cargo aircraft come to halt and unload their cargo. This space will be expanded by 90000 square meters.    Similarly, for passenger aircraft, "the space will be expanded by 111000  square meters.

In further remarks Akhoundi said:  "In the passenger terminal a new reception and rest area  has been unveiled today, where both in-coming and out-going passengers can relax".

The minister for road and transportation added:  "We have tried very hard to improve the quality of service we offer to our passengers at the Imam Khomeini international airport".   

Abbas Akhoundi also visited the 'salam terminal' at the airport .

Some of the new projects include expansion of terminal one, a special building for a fire brigade at the airport, and new cargo-holding facilities.

 

Speaking to reporters and journalists , Shahram Adamnejad , the managing director of Imam Khoemini international airport said special attention has been paid to the fuel costs of aircraft.

He added:  "Freight and cargo displaced at these new projects and facilities at Imam Khomeini international airport will be treated as if it is in a free trade zone."
