Dozens of Palestinian children still in Israel detention amid corona outbreak

Dozens of Palestinian children are still in detention in the Israeli regime’s jails, despite the spread of the coronavirus in the occupied territories.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced on Sunday that despite repeated calls for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails after the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the Zionist regime has continued to detain 180 Palestinian children in its prisons.

The club added that the regime has isolated two Palestinian patient children, who need treatment.

The Palestinian NGO called on all international bodies including UNICEF to put pressure on the Israeli regime to release the detained Palestinian children.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command announced the Israeli regime deliberately ignores the Palestinian prisoners so that the new Coronavirus is transmitted to them.

Last week, the Palestinian foreign ministry called on the Israeli regime to immediately release more than 5,000 Palestinian prisoners from more than 20 jails amidst rising cases of coronavirus infection.

The ministry said the Israeli Prisons Service (IPS) is not providing proper health protection to Palestinian prisoners, indicating that Israeli authorities have no intention to ease the apartheid and make sure that Palestinians are able to face the epidemic under better conditions.

Also, The Ramallah-based Palestinian Committee for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners confirmed on Wednesday, that a newly released Palestinian prisoner tested positive for the coronavirus.

The announcement came after the prisoner, Noureddin Sarsour, a resident of Betunia town, west of Ramallah city, who was incarcerated for 2 weeks at Ofer Israeli prison, upon his release from prison on Tuesday, received his results, showing he had contracted the Coronavirus.

Cairo-based League of 22 Arab States, recently appealed to all concerned international bodies, to pressure Israel for the protection of Palestinian prisoners, in a time the Coronavirus pandemic, has spread through several countries, including the occupation state of Israel itself, where thousands of cases have been reported.

According to official figures, 160 Palestinians have been infected with the Coronavirus in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, 12 of whom are residents of the Gaza Strip and the rest are residents of the West Bank. So far, one Palestinian has died from the virus, and more than 20 have recovered.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has extended the state of emergency for another 30 days to fight the Coronavirus. 205/207
