Iran Press/Europe: Following the efforts of the Iranian Embassy in Madrid and the coordination between the airlines of the two countries, the first direct flight of Iran Air (Iran Air co.) from Tehran to Madrid and vice versa conducted on September 2, 2020.
The opening ceremony was held at Madrid Airport in the presence of Hassan Qashqavi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Spain.
Qashqavi said at the ceremony: "Fortunately, direct and weekly flights have been conducted for the first time from Tehran to Madrid and vice versa, and we hope that this action will strengthen ties between the cultured and civilized nations of Iran and Spain, tourism development, as well as help to shore up trade exchanges.
Iran Air Co. had conducted indirect flights to Madrid via Greece in the 1990s, which were suspended about 17 years ago.
