Iran Press/Iran news: Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami arrived in the provincial capital Zahedan and laid foundation stones for various development projects there.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Zahedan Airport, Eslami said development in Sistan-Baluchestan is a key factor to uphold security and stability in eastern parts of Iran, Iran Press reported.
The government plan to launch a grand scheme for development of Sistan-Baluchestan in southeast Iran.
In December 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei allowed withdrawal of $500 million from the National Development Fund of Iran for development projects in Sistan-Baluchestan.
The vast province borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, and has a long coastline on the Sea of Oman. The province is currently grappling with severe water shortage, sandstorms, underdeveloped infrastructure and transit of illicit drugs. 101
