Iran Press/ Iran news: Asadollah Asadi former diplomat of the Iranian embassy in Austria was arrested in July 2018 in the German state of Bavaria while returning to his residence in Vienna, despite having political immunity.
One hundred days after his arrest, Asadi was transferred to Belgium in October 2018 with an illegal sentence by the German court in Karlsruhe.
Following his transfer, the Belgian Antwerp Criminal Court illegally sentenced Asadi to 20 years in prison, contrary to his diplomatic immunity under the 1961 Vienna Convention.
In a tweet on Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reported the release of Asadollah Assadi who was jailed illegally in Germany and Belgium for no good reason for 5 years.
Amir-Abdollahian said that the Iranian diplomat is on his way home and will soon arrive.
With the mediation of Oman, an exchange of prisoners between Iran and Belgium took place, where Asadollah Asadi is coming to Iran and Olivier Vandecasteele is going to Belgium.
The place of exchange is Muscat of Oman.
