Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, Iran's Chief of police, has emphasized that one of the primary responsibilities of cyber police is to ensure that everyone who uses the internet and cyberspace is not harmed in any way.

Iran Press /Iran news: Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of a meeting of Iran's cyber police chiefs on Wednesday, Chief of police, Hossein Ashtari, emphasized that virtually all of the population uses the internet and cyberspace in one form or another.

According to Iran Press, Ashtari said: "All of us in one way or another are involved with it and of course the police and all the executive organizations must be vigilant, and take action where necessary to ensure that cyberspace does not harm those who are using it."

"The first step is, informing people, and this is the job of the media. The second step is prevention of crime in cyberspace (internet), and this is primarily the job of police," Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari noted.

The chief commander of Law Enforcement Force of Islamic Republic of Iran, added: "Based on official statistics, today we are experiencing a 71 percent rise in cyber-crimes in comparison to last year, but the good news is that cyber police has dealt with and cleared-up 80 percent of all cyber-crimes, which signals two things, the first point is, cyber-crimes are growing and increasing in number and sophistication and the second point is that the cyber police has plenty of resources and manpower to investigate and clear-up 80 percent of these crimes.

Brigadier General Ashtari added: "In this respect we are ahead of many industrialized nations whose cyber police forces have a crime clear-up rate far lower than 80 percent."
