An ISIS terrorist, armed with a knife, has stabbed three people, killing one, in Melbourne, Australia, according to Australian police.

Iran Press/ Asia: A knife-wielding attacker on Friday, stabbed three people, killing one, before being shot by police in Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city.

The man was taken to the hospital under guard and is in a critical condition, according to police, who said they had been confronted by the attacker when they responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in the downtown area, reported Wall Street Journal

The Daesh terrorist group (also known as ISIS) has confirmed that one of its members conducted a recent stabbing attack in Melbourne.

Earlier in the day, a Somali man stabbed one person to death and wounded two more after torching his car, which was laden with gas cylinders, on Bourke Street in Melbourne, Reuters reported.

Prior to the statement, the state of Victoria's Police Commissioner Graham Ashton said that police were treating the incident as a terror attack.

Images captured in Melbourne on Friday showed a burning vehicle and smoke rising above the high-rise district. Footage published by the Australian Broadcasting Corp. showed a man lunging and slashing at officers with what appeared to be a knife, while a car was on fire a few yards away.

In December last year, an Australian man of Afghan origin drove a car into a crowd of people, injuring more than a dozen; one victim later died. That took place just blocks away from where Friday’s events were unfolding.

In January 2017, another man drove a car through Melbourne’s downtown and killed six people. According to ABC, that man was considered to be "high on drugs", and the attack wasn’t classified as terrorism-related. He is on trial this week.
