Iran Press/ Europe: Maria Zakharova stated: "At the Samarkand Summit in Uzbekistan, Iran is going to sign a memorandum of commitments to obtain the membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which will allow the country to join the founding documents and international treaties of this organization."
She added: "The process of joining Belarus to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will also begin at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand."
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said that the Memoranda of understanding on the status of dialogue partners for Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia had been prepared for signing. The process of granting dialogue partnership status will also begin for Bahrain, Maldives, and other countries.
Memorandum on Iran’s accession to be signed in Samarkand: SCO chief
The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held in Samarkand from September 15 to 16.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Observer countries include Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia. Partner countries include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey, and Sri Lanka.
The spokesman of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan also announced earlier that the heads of 15 countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will participate in the Samarkand Summit this weekend.
Samarkand will host the Summit meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Thursday and Friday this week. This event will be the first face-to-face meeting of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization since 2019 and the end of Uzbekistan's rotating SCO presidency.
