Tehran (IP)- In a meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Iran's parliament speaker said that Tehran considers the development of economic relations with Damascus as one of its priorities.

During the meeting with Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faisal Mekdad on Monday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed the need to support the private sector to promote economic cooperation between Iran and Syria.

For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister also said: "Great achievements have been made in the fight against terrorism, but the war on terrorists is not over yet."

"The US occupation of northeastern and southern Syria is dangerous and must end," he said.

Faisal Mekdad added: "After the failure to use terrorism, direct intervention in countries, and the establishment of military bases, the Americans were forced to leave parts of the region and resorted to other means to achieve their goals."

The US government intends to achieve its goals through inhumane sanctions, which it has not been able to achieve with military means, the top Syrian diplomat noted.
