Nigeria (IP) – Dozens of people have been killed in a gold mine collapse in a village near the Nigerian-Niger border.

Iran PressAfrica: Zahra'addin Sirajo, a local reporter in Katsina State, Nigeria, told Iran Press that the bodies of 85 people had been found in the mine collapse in Kwandago village so far.

Kwandago village, 15 km from Danisa, is a town on the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger, where a mine collapsed on Monday evening.

Hundreds of Nigerians and Nigeriens flock to Kwandago village to dig for gold.

Officials in Nigeria and the Republic of Niger have not yet commented on why the incident took place.
