The permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations on Wednesday criticized the United States for conducting nuclear tests and stated that nuclear disarmament should remain a priority for the international community.

Iran PressAmerica: Referring to the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty as well as the importance of this International Day in commemoration of victims of nuclear testing and environmental protection, the Iranian ambassador to the UN lashed out at the role of the US government in this regard.

Iranian envoy to UN criticized that the United States has carried out the highest number of nuclear tests compared to other nuclear countries since 1945, with conducting 1,054 nuclear tests out of a total of 2,000.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi welcomed the enforcement of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and stressed that nuclear disarmament must remain a priority for the international community, because, only nuclear disarmament and complete destruction of these weapons could guarantee for non-using these mass destruction weapons.

"The main audience for this occasion is the nuclear powers, which are committed to nuclear disarmament under Article 6 of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons," Takht Ravanchi said. 219
