Tehran (IP) - Iran's president told the Pakistani Foreign Minster that the US withdrawal from Afghanistan was a turning point for lasting peace and stability in the war-torn country.

Iran PressIran news: In his meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday, Ebrahim Raisi stressed that countries in the region must help different groups in Afghanistan form an inclusive and participatory government. 

Raisi said: "Guardianship in Afghanistan is a failed model of the US and has no potential to establish sustainable peace and stability in the country".

"The role of other countries, including neighbors, should only facilitate the establishment of an inclusive and participatory government with the presence of all Afghan ethnic groups he noted and recalled that during the past four decades Iran had been supporting the Afghan people," Iran's president stated.

He said that strengthening bilateral relations could pave the way for the development and boosting of regional and international cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.  

The Pakistani Foreign Minister for his part referred to the common stances of the two countries over the regional and international issues and said Pakistan was seeking the consolidation and elevation of ties with Iran in economic, political, and regional areas.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said his country could have positive cooperation with Iran as a significant actor in the region to maintain sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
