Tehran (IP) - A system for supporting the social and economic needs of prisoners' families unveiled on Wednesday in the presence of Iran’s judiciary spokesman.

The system aims at supporting prisoners’ families and recognizing their needs and housing condition. The system provides an updated statistic of prisoners' families and aims at a fair distribution of facilities among them.

Right now there are 92000 prisoners' families that 80,000 of them (about 90%) need support.

Head of Iran's prisons organization, Mohammad Haj Mohammadi in this ceremony said: "Helping prisoners' families was among our priorities."

"According to law and religious training, supporting those in need is essential while the head of the family is in prison," Haj Mohammadi added.

The head of Iran's prisons organization also emphasized creating job opportunities for prisoners, noting that prisoners' employment has reached 54%, and the aim is to reach 80% this year.

During the ceremony, Iran’s judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeli talked to the head of the prisons in Iran’s provinces through videoconference due to the coronavirus restrictions, emphasizing supporting the prisoners’ families.
