4.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Hormozgan

Hormozgan (IP) - A 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Hormozgan province, 60 km northeast of Bandar-e Lengeh, one day after a moderate 5.5 magnitude earthquake.

Iran Press/Iran News: According to the Institute of Geophysics, the University of Tehran, the site of the 4.5 magnitude earthquake was the Persian Gulf border, Hormozgan, and Qeshm Island - near Kong (Hormozgan) and at 6:20 on Sunday, January 16th.

"Longitude: 55.24, latitude: 26.75 and depth of the earthquake: 7 km." the report of the institute said.

Local officials said that assessment teams have been deployed to the area.

The earthquake epicenter was 35 km from Kong, 40 km from Khamir port, and 41 km from the Lengeh port of Hormozgan province. Also, the nearest centers of the province are 113 km from Bandar Abbas and 415 km from Shiraz.

On Saturday, a moderate magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the port of Kong, 60 km northeast of Bandar-e Lengeh, Hormozgan province in southern Iran, and the western villages of Qeshm Island early on Saturday.
