Following the U.S.-Israeli assassination of Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Mohammad-Bagher Zolghadr was appointed the new Secretary SNSC.

Why it matters: 

The appointmet shows the tollernece of Iran's sulling structure despite the U.S. intenteion to paralyze the Islamic Republic with 48 hours.

 

Who is Zolghadr:

Mohammad-Bagher Zolghadr, a veteran commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), has been appointed Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council after the martyrdom of Ali Larijani, who was killed in an American–Israeli attack. Zolghadr has held some of the most senior security, military, and judicial positions in the Islamic Republic over the past four decades.

 

Background:

He previously served as Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff for Basij Affairs, Deputy for Strategic Affairs of the Judiciary from 2012 to 2020, and Deputy for Social Protection and Crime Prevention in the Judiciary between 2010 and 2012. Zolghadr was also a longtime deputy and acting commander of the IRGC before being appointed Deputy Minister for Security and Law Enforcement in the Ministry of Interior during the ninth administration.
