Why it matters:
Lt. Gen. Soleimani remains a central symbol in Resistance discourse across West Asia, and renewed emphasis on his legacy underscores ongoing tensions between the U.S. and the Axis of Resistance.
What he's saying:
Speaking at a ceremony marking the sixth anniversary of the martyrdom of the IRGC Quds Force commander General Qassem Soleimani and the Second in Command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al‑Muhandis, Sheikh Naim Qassem said Soleimani’s primary objective was “supporting resistance groups and neutralizing American plots and plans.”
He said Iran plays a “pioneering and leading role” in backing resistance movements and the Palestinian people, and described Soleimani as a battlefield commander known for his courage and direct involvement in combat.
Sheikh Naim Qassem also highlighted General Soleimani’s close relationship with the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, adding that the Iranian general received the highest honor in Iran from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an award he said no one before him had received.
Referring to Soleimani’s assassination, Sheikh Naim Qassem said Hezbollah would continue his path, adding that his martyrdom had strengthened their resolve rather than weakened it.
Flashback:
On January 3, 2020, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), acting on orders from then-President Donald Trump, assassinated Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). The two were leading figures in the fight against Daesh (ISIS).
