International flights to the Chinese capital Beijing, which have been suspended since the beginning of the year after the coronavirus outbreak, resumed on Thursday.

Iran Press/Asia: China Aviation Authority announced in a statement that most of the foreign flights to Beijing airports that were transferred to other Chinese cities in late March are scheduled to return to Beijing airport since Thursday.

Beijing has spent about eight months fighting the coronavirus outbreak and succeeded to contain it. At present, there have been no reported cases of the virus across China for about 20 days, and the cases that are registered as infected people have traveled to China from other countries.

According to the statement, in the first phase, foreign flights to Beijing airport will be limited to eight countries: Thailand, Cambodia, and Pakistan in Asia, Greece, Denmark, Austria, and Sweden in Europe, and Canada in North America.

The statement said the eight countries were among the countries with the lowest number of corona infected passengers arriving in China, adding that the first direct international flight from the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh to Beijing on Thursday with Air China is done.

Chinese officials say the resumption of foreign flights to Beijing does not mean easing restrictions in the capital, but strict 14-day quarantine regulations are still in place throughout China, including Beijing, and require two nuclear nucleic acid tests (NAT) for passengers.

The resumption of international flights to Beijing indicates that the Chinese government intends to gradually end the siege of the city with a view to a complete curfew.
