Tehran (IP) - Chief of Staff of the President of Iran Mahmoud Vaezi said that what the US administration is invoking to refer to the Security Council has no legal or political basis and is merely propaganda.

Iran Press/Iran News: In response to Iran Press question on the JCOPA's Joint Commission opposition to the US actions in the Security Council, Vaezi stated: "At the meeting of the Joint Commission of the Iran Nuclear Deal everyone agreed that what the United States has been referring to is unacceptable and illegal."

Noting that 13 members of the Security Council have raised their objection to the return of sanctions against Iran, he added that it was rare in the US history to fail at the Security Council.

On the sidelines of the cabinet session on Wednesday, Vaezi stressed that both Indonesia and Niger, the then and the current UNSC presidents, have taken the same stance against reinstating sanctions against Iran.

Highlighting that Russia, China, and Europe also consider the US President Donald Trump's efforts to extend sanctions against Iran as propaganda for the upcoming presidential election, the chief of staff of the president of Iran said that the US president's domestic policy has been met with opposition due to gross mistakes in controlling the coronavirus and inappropriate behaving of protesters.
