Tehran (IP) - The Manganese Processing Complex opened on Thursday near Tehran after 20 years with the capacity of 50,000 tons of annual production.

Iran PressIran News: The Manging-Director of the Manganese Mine and Factories, Bijan Panahizadeh said that the mining complex opened on Thursday and it will continue to work with more than 80 personnel.

Bijan Panahizadeh continued: "The mine is in processing system and is capable of converting sub-grade 15-percent manganese to more than 25 percent."

He said in the new exploration cycle, a one-million-ton reserve and a 500k-ton manganese depot were discovered, and with the reactivation of the mine, more than 50,000 tons of manganese will be produced annually with a very high grade of 25 percent of a carat.

Bijan Panahizadeh stated that the US sanctioned Iran's manganese last year, and since it is a strategic product, the mine could meet the country's needs, especially the steel industries which have been sanctioned as well.

Panahizadeh said manganese is often used by the steel industry in deoxidizing and desulfurizing additives and as an alloying constituent.

He added manganese is used also in color, battery, and medicine industries.

The mine is considered as one of the most important mines in Iran, with more than 80 years of history.
