Tehran (IP) - In recent days, Iraq has witnessed insecurities that indicate a flawed security cycle in this country.

Iran PressMiddle East: On Wednesday evening, a US military base near Erbil Airport and a Turkish military base in northern Iraq were attacked.

On Thursday morning, positions of the Popular Mobilization Units, which is part of the official Iraqi armed forces, were attacked in Ninawa.

The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, also witnessed a car bomb blast in Sadr City on Thursday, killing one person and wounding 10 others.

Earlier in the day, al-Tayran Square in downtown Baghdad on January 21 witnessed two suicide bombings that killed 32 Iraqis and wounded 110 others.

This situation indicates the cycle of insecurity, in other words, the volatile security situation in this country.

In this regard, three issues should be noted;

The first issue is the continuation of ISIS remnants in Iraq.

In this regard, ISIS elements claimed responsibility for the car bombing in the Sadr City of Baghdad. The widespread outbreak of the coronavirus, the government's focus on political issues, the clashes of resistance groups with the US military, and the continuing anti-government protests were seen as opportunities for ISIS to increase its activities in Iraq.

However, ISIS has found itself incapable of confronting the Iraqi security forces and has resorted to its traditional approach to blasting people and public places.

The second issue is the project of making insecurity in Iraq, in other words, a foreign conspiracy.

In the past year, the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq has been seriously pursued by some political and military groups in Iraq. The insecurity in Iraq could highlight the view that the withdrawal of US troops will lead to increased insecurity and violence in Iraq.

Iraqi political analyst Athir al-Shar believes that one of the scenarios is to create an excuse for US troops to remain in Iraq through foreign conspiracies by challenging the security situation in the country, following an increase in calls inside Iraq for the withdrawal of US troops.

The third issue, which is more important than the other two, is that the current insecurity in Iraq is the result of conflicts and political and security divergences inside the country.

Today, in the Iraqi political and security arena, we are forming a security dichotomy (resistance/security dependence) and a political trichotomy (religion / Arab / Kurdish nationalism).

In terms of security, some security groups emphasize indigenous security and reliance on internal forces, while the government and some other political groups believe in security dependence on the United States and have agreed on the presence of US troops in talks with Washington.

Politically, the situation in Iraq is even worse.

Resistance groups emphasize the factor of religion and believe that some countries in the region, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE, are dissatisfied with the fact that the government is in the hands of the Iraqi Shia majority, and the Baghdad government should keep its distance from these countries because they are creating a threat to Iraq.

In contrast, the Iraqi government and some Sunni groups in Iraq emphasize Arab identity and try to pursue relations with Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Kurdish groups also operate within the framework of their Kurdish interests, and there is still a divergence between them and Baghdad. This situation has a great impact on the formation of insecurity; in other words, the cycle of insecurity in Iraq and will continue.
