Iran Press/ Europe: Laylat al-Qadr, (Qadr nights) Islamic ceremony commemorates the night on which God first revealed the Qurʾān to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel (Jibrīl).
Imam Ali (AS), whom Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) declared as “Amir al-Mo’menin” (The Leader of the Faithful), was martyred on the twenty-first day of Ramadan over thirteen centuries ago.
Muslims residing in Britain attended the Islamic Center of England in London on Tuesday night and held a revival ceremony on the 21st night of the holy month of Ramadan and mourned the martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS) by performing eulogies and beating chests.
The mourners performed eulogies in Persian, Arabic, and English. The speakers delivered speeches about the character of the Commander of The Faithful (The nickname of Imam Ali ) while observing the Laylat al-Qadr rituals.
In addition to London, Qadr Nights rituals are observed in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Cardiff.
Shi'as and Muslims living in Britain spend the night in mourning by reciting the Holy Quran, reciting the Joshan Kabir (which means the Great Cuirass) in the Nights of Qadr.
