A minister from Britain’s Foreign Office will travel to Iran on Sunday for talks with senior Iranian government officials amid escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf region, the department said Saturday.

Iran Press/Europe: Minister of State for the Middle East (UK deputy foreign secretary), Andrew Morrison will call for an "urgent de-escalation" of the crisis, a department statement said.

"At this time of increased regional tensions and at a crucial period for the future of the nuclear deal, this visit is an opportunity for further open, frank and constructive engagement with the government of Iran to hold transparent and constructive talks," it added according to The Telegraph.

The IRGC had announced in a statement early Thursday that the US-made Global Hawk surveillance drone was brought down by its Air Force near Kouh-e-Mobarak region in the southern district of Jask after the aircraft violated Iran's airspace.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a second statement on Thursday disclosing details about the shooting down of the US spy drone near the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the unmanned aircraft was targeted after violating Iran's airspace over the Southern coasts. 101/211/205
