IP - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says 'Yahya Sinwar', 'the new political leader of Hamas has the power to ensure a ceasefire deal, halting war on Gaza and freeing hostages.

Iran PressAmerica: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a joint press conference with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at a news conference at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, said

Antony Blinken said that the new leader of Hamas’s political wing has the power to ensure that a ceasefire deal is reached halting the war in Gaza and freeing hostages.

"Sinwar has been and remains the primary decider when it comes to concluding the ceasefire." He said.

Blinken speech comes when Hamas announced the suspension of indirect negotiations with Israel following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

Qatar also did not send its envoy to the meeting in Cairo this weekend.

Blinken says talks on implementing the deal after months of painstaking negotiations have continued despite the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, who Sinwar will now take over for.

Blinken says the effort to reach a ceasefire is in the final stage but is threatened by tensions after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Also, Blinken said that the United States has communicated to Iran and Israel that there is a consensus in the Middle East that the current conflict must not escalate.

“No one should escalate this conflict. We’ve been engaged in intense diplomacy with allies and partners, communicating that message directly to Iran. We communicated that message directly to Israel,” Blinken tells reporters.
