Damascus (IP) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad praised the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for his country.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is heading a delegation to Syria, met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to discuss issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian congratulated the successful holding of the Syrian presidential election, as well as the country's political achievements, and international victories, and presented a report on a regional meeting in support of Iraq.

Referring to the cooperation between the two countries in the economic field, the Iranian Foreign Minister also stressed the need to activate the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation and other existing mechanisms in this field.

The Syrian President also expressed his views on the two countries' cooperation in bilateral fields, as well as cooperation on regional and international issues, expressing satisfaction with the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for Syria.

Amir-Abdollahian had previously met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad.

Prior to Syria, the Iranian Foreign Minister traveled to Baghdad to attend a regional meeting in support of Iraq, and during the meeting, he met with Iraqi officials and some of the officials at the summit.
