Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday morning attended the closed session of the Iranian Parliament and presented a report on political activities being done on the latest developments in Syria and the fall of Bashar Assad's Government.
"In this meeting, I presented a report on the diplomatic activities carried out over the past few days, particularly meetings in Doha," Araghchi said.
During the meeting with MPs, representatives raised questions about the course and pace of developments in Syria, to which we responded, and several points were discussed, Iran FM added.
On Sunday, Syrian opposition armed forces seized control of Damascus without any resistance from the Syrian Army after a ten-day military offensive started with the capture of Homs, and Hama on the second and third day of the offensive.
Before the arrival of opposition forces in Damascus, the Syrian Army Command announced in a statement the fall of the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Earlier on Sunday, opposition forces gained control of Damascus and the Presidential Palace.
Bashar al-Assad departed Damascus for Moscow with his family, where they were granted asylum by the Russian government.
Iran FM Delivers Report on Parliament
On Monday Iranian FM Abbas Raghchi told the Iranian Parliament News Website that he delivered a report and answered MPs' questions regarding development in Syria.
Araghchi in response to the question of whether the opposition groups to Bashar al-Assad would be recognized and present in the new round of the Astana process, said: "Essentially, the Syrian government has never participated in the Astana meetings, which have been between Iran, Turkey, and Russia; whether this process continues in the future depends on the developments and decisions of the three countries.
"Other Arab countries have also never been part of the Astana discussions," Araghchi said.
