Iran Press/commentary: Iran's Supreme National Security Council held an extraordinary meeting on Friday following the US assassination of the Commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.
A statement was issued in the meeting, saying different aspects of the incident are being investigated and decisions will be made in due course.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) announced that the US must know that the criminal attack against General Soleimani was the country's biggest strategic mistake in West Asia and that the US will pay a price for this miscalculation.
"Undoubtedly, this criminal act was a sort of revenge by Daesh and Takfiri terrorists against the great commanders in the fight against terrorism, an act of revenge which was committed by the United States against those who personified the defeat and uprooting of terrorism in Iraq and Syria," the statement said.
The US has time and again showed that it is the enemy of any ideology and movement that confronts terrorists.
Receiving hundreds of nurses last week, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not seek war, but it does confront and hit hard anyone who threatens the Iranian nation's interests, dignity, elegance, and progress.
Iran is not after waging war; a US Global Hawk spy drone intruded into the Iranian airspace last year and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) brought it down after the drone ignored Iran’s several warnings. But the IRGC let go of another intruding US manned plane and refrained from targeting it.
In recent years, the US has set out to execute fictitious scenarios to justify its interventions and domination of target countries to open the way for its military aggression, one of which was the military invasion on Iraq, relying on a false project of eradication of Saddam's chemical weapons.
The US tried to carry out the project in Syria on the same basis but failed. The US warmongers are a proponent of this theory, such that they are well-known as the 'advocates of crisis theory'.
The Iranophobia project is another example in terms of crisis theory through which the US portrays Iran as a threat to the region in order to pursue its own goals.
One of the goals of the project is to hit the resistance movement in the region. Yet, in addition to challenging its position in the region, the US also exposed its allied criminal regimes to a severe response from the resistance movement.
Public opinion in today's world blames the US and Trump for causing crisis and war as well as violating international laws and treaties.
The US assassination of General Soleimani has international consequences that will certainly cost the perpetrators of such a crime far more than its short-term propaganda benefits.
