Kabul (IP) - New video shot by Iran Press from the streets of Kabul on the day of Ashura shows that, despite certain restrictions imposed by the Taliban, the Shia community of the Afghan capital mourned and observed their religious traditions.

Iran PressIran news: A large number of Afghan Shiites, especially young people, participated in the Ashura day mourning procession in the streets of Kabul with Ashura flags in their hands.

Also, Afghan Shia women and girls were widely present in the Ashura commemoration, shouting "Labik Ya Hussain."

The mourners chanted, "Hussein Hussein is our slogan; martyrdom is our honor."

The Taliban police forces ensured the safety of the mourners in the capital.

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. In 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE), Imam Hussein (AS) and his true companions were martyred in the battle against the army of then-time tyrant Yazid I, led by 'Umar b. Sa'd. 

Friday, July 28, 2023, Muharram 10, 1445 AH was Ashura day; people in Iran and other parts of the world started mourning rituals either in mosques or in the streets, from the morning, on the anniversary of Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom.
