Tehran (IP) - Iranian government spokesman stressed that those who claim to have downed an Iranian drone over the waters of the Persian Gulf should provide proper evidence to back up their claims.

Iran Press/Iran news: Asked by Iran Press correspondent about US President Donald Trump's recent claim that an Iranian drone was shot down by a US warship over the waters of the Persian Gulf, Ali Rabiei emphasised that Iran definitely states that none of its drones have been shot down in the Persian Gulf, and it is up to those who claim an Iranian drone has been downed to provide appropriate evidence to back up their claims.

He made the remarks at his weekly press conference on Monday, Iran Press reported.

In further remarks, the government spokesman said the Islamic Republic, on a routine basis, flies a number of drones over the waters of the Persian Gulf.

He added: "This is to ensure our own security, and for purely defensive reasons, and these drone flights are currently on-going. I can assure you that no Iranian drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) has been downed over the Persian Gulf."

Elsewhere in his remarks Rabiei said whoever knows Iran and is familiar with Iranian culture, will surely know that Iranians are an independent people. Everybody knows that the Islamic Republic of Iran will staunchly defend its independence.
