The closing ceremony of 100-Second Film Festival themed People and Security was held in Tehran on Sunday making a success in anti-drugs addiction awareness.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking in the ceremony held at the Iranian Arts Center (Hoze Honari), the Spokesman of Iran's Law Enforcement Police Brigadier General Ahmad Nourian said the aim behind the festival was to prevent the society, families, and youngsters from addiction.

Rocky-relationship in families, social problems and living in distressful environments are the main reasons for addiction, he said.

Brigadier General Nourian added that 80 percent of those aged under 18 who are kept in rehabilitation centers are from divorced or addict parents. "The enemies do their best to increase drugs usage in the country."

He warned that the cyberspace creates opportunities for the enemies to target humanity so that they can increase narcotics usage.

Head of Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police Brigadier General Masoud Zahedian who was taking part in the ceremony called narcotics an international menace against all countries.

Referring to Iran's geographical position, Zahedian said that due to Iran's adjacency to the countries producing narcotics, like Afghanistan, some narcotics trafficking leak to Iran causing addiction.

Head of Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police added, "The Islamic Revolution's Leader said addiction is one of the first social problems, therefore, we as the police try to prevent and counter it also by producing related films to increase people's information."

In an exclusive interview with IP on sidelines of the closing session, the general said Iran is a pioneer in anti-drugs operation and more than 3810 police force have been martyred and above 12000 injured in the fight.

Zahedian said that the US-led sanctions against Iran have negatively affected the anti-narcotics drive in terms of supply of equipment to fight drugs traffickers.

Also speaking to IP in the event, Secretary-General of Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters Eskandar Momeni said that Iran does not differentiate between fighting drugs trafficking for domestic consumption or international transit.

Although the oppressive sanctions against Iran are affecting the anti-narcotics measures, he added, Iranian police has been firm in its march to curb the menace of addiction.

Brigadier General Mohammad Sharafi, a commander of Iranian police tasked with the prevention of crimes also delivered a speech saying that no organization is able to counter the narcotics and addiction.

He said the Iranian Law Enforcement Force has invited artists to produce films to help it and counter the dangerous phenomenon and threat.

"Otherwise, a heavy price would be paid," he said expressing the hope that necessary steps will be taken to combat addiction and social problems.
