Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister and European Union's top diplomat had a telephone conversation about important regional and international issues, including the operation of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to the military aggression of the Zionist regime, especially the consular section of our country's embassy in Damascus, as well as the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Iran PressIran news: In this call, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out the frequent aggressions of the Zionist regime, including targeting the advisory forces of IRGC in the fight against terrorism in Syria. Amir-Abdollhian emphasized that the Zionist regime's military attack against Iranian diplomatic facilities in Damascus was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention and crossed the red line of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said in a post on X that he had held a phone conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to condemn the Iranian drone and missile attack on Sunday night against Israel which was carried out in response to the recent Israeli regime's crimes in the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Borrell wrote:  "On behalf of EU Member States, I called on all parties to exercise utmost restraint."

"I just spoke to Iran’s Foreign Minister Hosein Amir-Abdollahian to convey these messages and urge Iran not to escalate further," he added in his post.

Amir-Abdollahian added: "Against the diplomatic inaction of the United Nations and the Security Council in issuing a single statement condemning this action, the Islamic Republic of Iran had no choice but to punish the Zionist regime within the framework of legitimate defense."

In this call, Joseph Borrell, the head of the European Union's foreign policy, pointed out that Iran's military response was not far from expected. The Islamic Republic of Iran expressed its satisfaction that this operation has ended and emphasized that the European Union condemns the attack on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus for violating the Vienna Convention.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a retaliatory strike on multiple locations in Israel, in response to the Israeli terrorist attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria on 1 April 2024.

On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, a senior commander along with six other IRGC officers.
