Amir-Abdollahian, Lavrov stress strengthening Iran-Russia cooperation

The Foreign Ministers of Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sergei Lavrov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, discussed in a telephone conversation the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the international arena, especially the issue of Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran news: The Iranian and Russian foreign ministers also discussed how to resume talks on the nuclear deal and the complex situation in the region, including Afghanistan.

Referring to the need for regional and international interaction between Tehran and Moscow, the Russian Foreign Minister said that Russia was interested in the resumption of nuclear talks in Vienna.

The Iranian and Russian foreign ministers also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan in detail. Amir-Abdollahian and Lavrov stressed that Tehran and Moscow have similar views on developments in Afghanistan.

The Iranian and Russian foreign ministers called for a peaceful dialogue between the Afghan political forces and the formation of an inclusive government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as the only way to end the violence in the country.

Lavrov and Amir-Abdollahian also stressed the international agenda for continuing close coordination in the framework of the Astana talks on resolving the Syrian issue and discussed the Islamic Republic of Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
