Iran Press/Asia: In an exclusive interview with the Global Times, Mohammad Keshavarz Zadeh said bilateral relations would not be affected by the current international situation and the link would remain valuable in the long run.
Keshavarz Zadeh said that Iran and its health system are simultaneously fighting on two fronts, one against the Coronavirus and the other against US sanctions.
Unlike other countries, Iranian medical staff has been "severely damaged" by the US government's economic terrorism campaign, the diplomat added.
He said US sanctions had made it impossible for Iranians to import drugs and medical equipment, and that even if foreign suppliers were found, countless US sanctions on transportation, finance, and banking would make such a deal impossible.
"Iran and China have always been successful in establishing friendly relations, especially during the last year and a half, and we have witnessed the flourishing of cooperation in various fields, which has led to beneficial and tangible results," Keshavarz Zadeh said.
"It goes without saying that the two countries manage their relations on the basis of win-win cooperation, acceptance of each other's sovereign rights, independence and mutual respect for each other's social and governance systems," he said.
China has already sent medical supplies to Iran to help fight the Coronavirus, and Iran has become the first foreign destination for sending Chinese medical teams.
The ambassador said that reports had been received about consultative meetings in which members of Chinese medical teams had participated and that their experiences had been welcomed by the Iranian side.
Elsewhere in the interview, Keshavarz Zadeh expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their assistance and donation of medical equipment.
"I am confident that through joint efforts to overcome the coronavirus, there will be a brighter future for our relationship," he said.
