Iran Press/ Asia: The statement was made following a bilateral meeting between Araghchi and Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during which they discussed a wide range of regional and international issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in promoting economic growth and ensuring regional stability.
Abbas Araghchi stated, “With Israel's policies, our region has turned into a powder keg, and its explosion could endanger peace and security both in the region and the entire world.”
Iran and Turkey Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
Araghchi highlighted the productive discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stressing that Iran is committed to enhancing relations with Turkey. “We have no boundaries when it comes to expanding our ties with Turkey, and we are determined to continue strengthening them,” he said. He also outlined several areas of cooperation, including trade, counter-terrorism efforts, border security, and energy collaboration.
In addition to economic matters, the two nations discussed the need to hold regular sessions of the Iran-Turkey High Cooperation Council and their joint economic commission. Araghchi also announced that 2025 has been designated as the cultural year for Iran and Turkey, with a series of cultural programs planned to further deepen ties between the neighboring countries.
Regional Conflict and the Threat of War
In his remarks, Araghchi underscored the urgent need for action to prevent the escalation of conflict in the region, particularly in Lebanon and Gaza. He condemned the actions of Israel, stating that the regime’s efforts to expand warfare are unacceptable to regional countries, especially Iran and Turkey. He called on Islamic nations to utilize economic and political tools to halt Israel’s "war machine."
Araghchi warned that the region is on the brink of war due to Israel’s aggressive policies, which have made the Middle East a “powder keg.” He reiterated that Iran is prepared for any scenario but prefers to de-escalate tensions. Describing Israel as the "biggest threat to global peace and security," he criticized the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, for failing to act against Israeli atrocities, further emboldened by Western, particularly American, support.
Araghchi expressed deep concern over the situation in Lebanon and the broader implications of the conflict for regional security. He called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Lebanon and Gaza. Furthermore, he praised the legacy of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader recently killed by Israeli forces, emphasizing that such assassinations would not deter the Palestinian resistance.
In closing, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that Iran and Turkey share common goals, interests, and concerns, with the future of both nations deeply intertwined. The two countries are committed to maintaining close consultations and overcoming obstacles to achieving new horizons in their bilateral and regional cooperation.
