Iran Press/Africa: on the 7th day of the election campaign the five candidates warned, at their electoral meetings, against foreign interference, particularly after the European Parliament had scheduled a meeting to discuss the situation in Algeria.
The candidates condemned the European Parliament's move, stressing that "this act constitutes a clear provocation on the eve of the presidential elections", Algeria Press Service Reported.
From Laghouat, where he led a meeting at the Abdallah-Kriou House of Culture, candidate Abdelkader Bengrina said "there are lackeys at the service of their masters who do not wish to see Algeria stand up," promising, in case of his victory, to work to make Algeria "a leading nation in the concert of nations."
"When our country is in peril, all internal resentments must dissipate to raise us, as one man, against the enemies of our homeland," he said, calling on the people to "mobilize to preserve the Homeland and refuse that internal affairs be discussed at the level of the European Parliament with the complicity of their supporters inside."
Reacting to videos on social networks about the release of citizens opposed to the elections in Aflou (Laghouat), the candidate of the El-Bina movement said: "they are our brothers, we forgive our opponents and we call on them to come out in a march against foreign interference in our country's internal affairs".
In the same vein, independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebbon also criticized the "attempts aiming to interfere in the country's internal affairs," calling on the people to "strengthen their ranks and vote massively on December 12 to overcome the current political situation."
"The Algerian people are free and will not accept any interference, by external parties, in their country's internal affairs, including attempts by the European Union," the former Prime Minister said at a meeting held at the House of Culture in Khenchela.
For his part, candidate Ali Benflis called on "Algerians to show unity in defending the country," adding in this wake that "the current situation requires the mobilization and solidarity of all." 205/204
