Afghanistan (IP) - Afghan people held a gathering in front of Iran's Embassy in Kabul and asked for unity between the two countries.

Iran PressAsia: Kabul's people and some Afghan parties held the gathering on Wednesday. The participants were carrying flowers as a sign of the Afghan-Iranian nations' friendship.

In interviews with Iran Press, some of the participants stressed the vigilance of the two nations against the separationist plots of the enemies. 

A group of Afghan citizens in Herat of Afghanistan assaulted the Embassy of Iran on Monday evening. The assailants were provoked by images showing torture and ill-treatment of Afghan refugees that have gotten viral in Afghan cyberspace.

In reaction to the incident, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, reminded the Afghan officials of their responsibility toward the diplomatic missions: "The full security of embassies and missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat and other cities of Afghanistan must be fulfilled and the necessary guarantees for the safe operation of these missions."

On the third day of the holy month of Ramadan, three clerics were targeted in a knife attack in Imam Reza's holy shrine in Mashhad, northeastern Iran. Two of the clerics were martyred, and one was injured. 

The assailant was reported to be a Takfiri element with Afghan nationality.

The incident was followed by extensive reactions from Afghan political figures and scholars.
