Adil Abdul Mahdi

The Iraqi caretaker Prime Minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi has said he wanted to inform the Popular Mobilization Forces (also known as Hashd al-Shaabi) that a US airstrike was imminent, but less than an hour after his telephone conversation with US defense secretary, Mark Esper, the airstrike took place.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Iraqi caretaker Prime Minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi has said he was contacted by Mark Esper, the US defense secretary, and told that an airstrike on the Kata’ib Hizbollah (the Iraqi Hezbollah movement which is part of Hashd al-Shaabi) was imminent, and that he tired to contact the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as "al-Hashd al-Shaabi" to tell them about the impending US airstrike but the attack happened very quickly, less than an hour after his telephone conversation with Mark Esper.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iraqi caretaker Prime Minister said he told Mark Esper that the US move was very violent and dangerous and that Baghdad and Washington had to negotiate and discuss this in more detail, but the airstrike happened soon after his telephone contact with Esper.

Adil Abdul Mahdi also said he had another telephone conversation with US defense secretary Mark Esper after the airstirke on Kata’ib Hizbollah (the Iraqi Hezbollah movement) positions, and he conveyed to Esper his "deep anger" at the US move and the Iraqi government's opposition to this US action.
