Tehran (IP) - The CEO of Iran Thalassemia Society emphasized that 662 thalassemic patients have lost their lives due to the U.S. unilateral sanctions.

Iran PressIran news: Younes Arab, CEO of the Iranian Thalassemia Society added: "Iranian thalassemic patients are directly affected by the sanctions on medicine since 2018. 662 patients have lost their lives and more than 10,000 people have been seriously affected."

worrying about life-threatening sanctions as a very serious matter posing a hazard for patients, Arab expressed his concerns in the field of imported drugs.

The unilateral sanctions of the United States with the support of European allies have caused obstacles for the import of medicine and medical equipment, including special medicines for Iranian patients.

There are about 23 thousand patients with thalassemia major, intermedia, cycle of tuberculosis, and thalassemia who need lifelong treatment in the country.
