Iran Press/ Africa: Outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members attacked a police station in the early hours on Sunday in the Oyi local government area of the state, said Ikenga. Six of them were killed and several others escaped with gunshot injuries.
One policeman was seriously wounded, he added. An office in the facility was partially damaged by a petrol bomb thrown by gunmen.
Joint security operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing gunmen. The spokesperson advised the public and hospitals in the state to report any people with gunshot wounds.
Armed attacks have been a primary security threat in parts of Nigeria, leading to deaths and kidnappings in recent months.
According to Xinhua, IPOB was listed as a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government in 2017.
