IRAN-U.S. NUCLEAR TALKS 2025

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed the membership of Iran in the NPT and its right to have a full nuclear fuel cycle.

Why it matters:

Peaceful use of nuclear energy is a right preserved for any country. FM Araghchi's comment comes as Iran has engaged in nuclear talks with the U.S. to remove their alleged concerns over its use of clean energy.

The big picture:

Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that the next round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, originally set for May 3 in Rome, has been postponed following a proposal by Oman’s foreign minister. The first three rounds went well, as both sides said.

What he's saying:

"There are several NPT members that enrich uranium while wholly rejecting nuclear weapons. Apart from Iran, this club includes several Asian, European, and South American nations," Araghchi mentioned on his X account.
