Iran Press/ Iran news: At the ceremony of the Mustafa Prize held on Thursday. The winners were granted cash prizes amounting to $1 million.
Many top-brass Iranian and foreign figures attended the ceremony, including; Iran's Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad-Ali Zolfigol, and the former Iraqi Prime Minister Abdul Mahdi.
The event's secretariat received more than 515 works in the process, of which 484 were submitted to the primary judging groups. Of these works, 213 works reached the secondary judging; then 41 ones reached the final stage, and five were selected.
A Harvard University professor Cumrun Vafa in the 'Fields of Science and Technology' received the prize for F-theory.'
The second laureate was Zahid Hasan for 'Weyl fermion semimetals.' Zahid Hasan is originally from Bangladesh who is currently a professor at Princeton University.
The next laureate was Mohamed H. Sayegh for 'Novel Therapies to Improve Renal and Cardiac Allograft Outcomes,' from Lebanon. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary was another prize winner for the 'discovery of fascinating molecules with therapeutic applications.'
Finally, Yahya Tayalati for 'Observation of the Light by Light Scattering and the Search for Magnetic Monopoles' was the next laureate.
Launched in 2013, the Mustafa Prize event seeks to encourage education and research and play a pioneering role in developing regional relations between science and technology institutions working in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries.
