Tehran (IP) - People in Tehrani, like many others in dozens of cities across the countries from different walks of life are taking part in a 10-km-path street celebration in the Iranian capital city to celebrate the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir.

Iran PressIran news: Today, Friday, July 7, is the anniversary of the Eid al-Ghadir occasion when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first Imam of Shiites, as his successor and the leader of Muslims some 14 centuries ago.

Tehran's Valiasr Street is the host of 10 kilometers length celebration on Friday.

The ceremony is also held across the country, especially in the centers of the provinces.

Alleyways and thoroughfares lighting illuminated the capital squares, streets, and allies during the ceremony.

Cultural, social, art, and entertainment programs were held suitable for all ages.           

Also, bounty offerings (called Nazri food) were distributed during the nationwide bash.     

The ceremony was scheduled to be untill 22:00 local time (18:30 GTM), but the wave of participants may be extended the time of the ceremony.

Iran Press is broadcasting live footage of the celebration, where people are singing eulogies, clapping, and being served cold drinks and sweets while carrying colorful flags and banners on which words have been observed in praise of Imam Ali (AS).

The occasion, known as Eid al-Ghadir, is paramount for Muslims, so they mark it as elegant as possible.

Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used the Ghadir Khumm event to enlighten people about the characteristics of a qualified leader that can be trusted with the management of society, so he raised Imam Ali's hand before the eyes of thousands of people and declared: "Every one whom I was their leader (Mowla), from now this Ali is their leader."
