Tehran(IP) - The closing celebration of "Heroes of a Century of Iranian Sports" was wrapped up by people's votes in the Islamic Republic of Iran's Broadcasting (IRIB) conference hall in Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Peyman Jebelli, the head of IRIB, Seyed Hamid Sajjadi, and the Minister of Sports and Youth attended the event.

According to Iran Press News Agency, the top athletes of the past 100 years of Iranian sports have been introduced through an opinion poll.

the selection of the bests in a TV programs format was put into an opinion poll. More than 2.5 million votes were sent to the festival secretariat in a one-month campaign.

The head of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Broadcasting emphasized that the mission of the national media is to show the heroism of the heroic athletes of Islamic Iran.

Peyman Jebelli at the closing ceremony of the festival 'Heroes of a century of Iranian Sports', which was held on Wednesday evening in the conference hall of the IRIB said:

"In this ceremony, heroic athletes are present who form the identity elements of Islamic Iran, such as the peaks of pride and chivalry, which have been sources of pride for decades."

The head of Iran's national media said that an athlete like 'Takhti' should be followed, and even his loss on the field was the greatest victory of this champion in the field of chivalry.

Gholamreza Takhti was an Iranian Olympic Gold-Medalist wrestler and Varzesh-e Bastani practitioner. Popularly nicknamed Jahān Pahlevān because of his chivalrous behavior and sportsmanship.

Peyman Jebelli also praised the brave athletes who proudly did not play against the Zionist regime and emphasized that the duty of the national media is to reflect the honors of these heroic athletes.

The head of the national media added: "Iranian athletes are one of the main elements in creating the identity of the Iranian nation,  which should be source of  pride, and the story of their heroism should be shown in the field of art, which is the duty of the national media."
