US can't use Iraq to attack neighbours: Iraq MoD spokesman
Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Baghdad won't allow the US to use Iraq as a base to attack our neighbours.
Iran Press/Middle East: Iraqi Defense Ministry Spokesman, Major General Tahseen al-Khafaji stressed on increasing Iran-Iraq cooperation and said that his country would never allow outsiders to use its territory for military action against any neighbour.
Major General Tahseen al-Khafaji in an exclusive interview with Iran’s English-language Press TV news network in Baghdad has condemned a recent statement by US President Donald Trump that American forces must remain in Iraq so Washington can keep a close eye on neighbouring Iran, Press TV reported.
"The Baghdad government will not allow anyone to work inside Iraq against any country around us. We have good relations will all of our neighbours,” Major General al-Khafaji said.
The senior Iraqi defense official hailed Iran’s role in defeating ISIS terrorists and said: “Iran helped Iraq in battles against ISIS. We have advisors from Iran, who working with Iraqi troops. We have a good relationship” and are planning to further expand such ties in the future, Khafaji pointed out."
The Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman went on to say that his country will continue to cooperate with Iran and Russia to eradicate ISIS sleeper cells.
Khafaji highlighted that Iraq will keep a close eye on the border with neighbouring Syria to prevent possible infiltration of terrorists into the country.
The Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman noted to the importance of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani recent travel to Iraq and said: Iran – Iraq trades and two countries markets are very important for both sides. Trade relations between the two countries should be strengthened and I think the expansion of trade is in favour of people of Iraq and Iran.
