Following the surprise decision last week to withdraw US military forces from Syria within a one month period, the US army evacuated a military warehouse near the Iraqi border on Friday.

Iran Press/Middle East: According to a reliable local source, the US forces vacated a warehouse in Malikiye in the northeast al-Hasakah province, Turkey's Anadolu news agency reported.

Hummer armored vehicles and trucks from the 400-square-meter (4,306 square foot) warehouse -- around which some 50 US troops were based -- were sent to Iraq.

Washington's military presence in Syria has included some 18 military bases.

On December 26, US president Donald Trump visited American military forces in Iraq on a surprise trip, and met with US service members stationed at the Al Asad Air Base.

During the visit, Trump told reporters that he has 'no plans at all' to remove US troops from Iraq, instead stressing his interests in wanting soldiers to vacate from Syria.

On December 20, US senators from both sides of the isle reacted angrily to president Donald Trump's decision to begin pulling troops out of Syria, describing the move as a "huge Obama-like mistake."

Republican senators Lindsey Graham, Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton and Marco Rubio as well as Democratic senator Jeanne Shaheen and independent senator Angus King expressed serious concern in the letter noting that the withdrawal of US troops from Syria may embolden Bashar al Assad to take further actions to solidify his power.

On December 19, Donald Trump ordered a rapid withdrawal of all 2,000 United States ground troops in Syria within 30 days.   103 /211
